I'M BECCA BASIC
A grilled cheese-loving, crystal obsessed artist, photographer, and educator, in Orlando, FL. Equal parts Morticia Addams, Betty Boop, & Pee-wee Herman. Welcome to my creative emporium!
I help creatives market their work, turn followers into fans, and earn an income doing what they love!
I'm an artist, photographer, educator, and speaker. I've got a last name no one ever pronounces correctly (pronounced Bah-shich)! and I'm equal parts Betty Boop, Morticia Addams, and Pee-wee Herman. I love the sweet, the strange, and the hysterical. You’re not living if you’re not laughing!
You'll typically find me with a camera around my neck, up to my elbows in paint, and teaching other creatives how to market themselves. I'm passionate about photography and creating art, but I'm also passionate about creatives.
I believe creatives can and deserve to have the opportunity of a financially supportive career. There’s usually just one thing missing - the marketing skills to do so.
There are some amazingly talented people out there. Unfortunately, even the most talented creatives may never find success because they don't know how to teach others why what they do is valuable and worth investing in. They simply don't know how to market themselves.
I create educational products, services, and communities related to marketing because I want to remove the overwhelm and help creatives reach their goals faster.
When I'm not taking photos, painting, and helping other creatives, I'm loving on my husband, Mr. B., adding to my life-long collection of crystals, and raising orchids. I'm an outgoing introvert with a strong need for neatness and organization and if I told you my spices weren't alphabetized, it would be a LIE. My favorite meal is a grilled cheese and if that was all there ever was to eat, I wouldn't be mad about it.

ABOUT MY ART
For lovers of tiny tales, dark elegance, and a sprinkle of sugar on top.
When it comes to my art, you'll find a sweet and strange world of whimsical dream-like characters that seem to have jumped straight out of a fairytale, each with a story of their own.
These tiny tales contain moody atmospheres and contrasting themes and are displayed as a play between light and dark. You'll find the emotions of each character and their story most heavily expressed in their brooding eyes. Representing the world around us, my art explores the light and darkness we face in life and what it means to be human.
My work is heavily influenced by fairytales and nursery rhymes as well as creepy carnivals, the vintage and antique, and donuts with sprinkles. You'll find each piece heavily layered in an alchemy of beautiful papers, paints, color pencils, pastels, and clay. These layers create highly textured and detailed pieces with a unique depth and appearance.
Though these visual stories provide an escape from the everyday, my art is in truth, a fantastical reflection of the world around us. It is my hope that others recognize the reflection of our world in these themes, and in turn, see a reflection of themselves.

FUN FACTS ABOUT BECCA
What's one thing you can't live without?
Handcrafted soaps! Especially the ones that smell like incense.
What career would be a runner up to what you're doing now?
I used to say photography for sure, but now I'm fortunate enough to be expanding my business into portrait photography! I plan to serve those with alternative styles like punk, goth, vintage, and everything in between with brand, portrait, and small wedding photography. I mean, how many photographers are out there who totally get that aesthetic!?!
What's a fact about you others might find strange?
I'm 100% serious at all times. See attached photo.
Becca Basic was born and raised in central Florida. She began dabbling in acrylics as a child of 7, and later re-discovered her love for creating art. In a journey of self-education, she began expressing the stories and ideas within her mind onto canvas.
Through the encouragement of those closest to her, Becca began offering her artwork to the public. Within 6 months of her first sale, Becca's works were displayed in her first and solo show, "Memories, Dreams, and Fantasies," beginning the exhibition of her works in 2010.
Becca's body of work is strong in emotive concepts and color with a fusion of various influences such as fairytales, fantasy, dreams, and humor. These influences are present in her work as a whimsical relationship between light and dark, creating a world all her own.
Over time, Becca's work has extended beyond her studio to within the art community itself. She became passionate about helping others empower themselves to be successful independent artists and began the Facebook business community, "Marketing Your Creative Business," in 2013. In 2014, she began hosting a local quarterly educational and networking social, called artLENS. This event was created by Becca to provide networking opportunities as well as creative business education to local artists to help them forward their own artistic careers. This event continued for 4 years. She now hosts "Creativity at Work," a business workshop series for Orlando creatives and is currently working to help even more artists by expanding to online creative business education.
Becca is currently working on developing her online course, "Marketing Your Creative Business," to bring that dream to fruition.
The visual world I create typically evolves from my reaction to a color, mood or idea, and is heavily influenced by fairytales and nursery rhymes as well as surrealism and fantasy. It is a strange and curious world full of sweetness, oddities, laughter, and whimsy. I navigate towards a contradiction of themes; a play between light and dark, sadness and humor, hope and despair, and the sweet and strange. The themes in my work are a fantastical reflection of the world around us. It is my hope that others can also recognize the reflection of our world in these themes, and in turn, see a reflection of themselves.
