I have a thing for small living. If you follow me on Pinterest, you probably know this because I have a board dedicated to it. Now, when I say “small,” I don’t mean that I dream about climbing a ladder to get to my loft bed or pooping in a compost bucket. :P I’m talking about intentional living. Homes that are smartly designed and only what you need, but comfortable all the same. And if it’s an old house, that’s even better.
There’s something about the way a small space makes you become intentional with your belongings. It’s the peace in simplicity it provides. The lack of clutter and the freedom from taking care of it all. Not to mention how easy it is to luxe up a small home because it doesn’t cost near as much to furnish and decorate like a boss.
After recently staying in a 1BD/1BA in St. Augustine during my anniversary getaway with Mr. B, I was reminded how very much I crave to live like that (of course a separate studio out back is absolutely necessary, please! And glass doorknobs just like this one from the house we stayed in!) It’s fun to collect things, but when your space is small, you end up paring down to the things you truly love and end up maintaining less. And to be surrounded with nothing but what brings you joy and the freedom of time to do other things is pretty amazing. At least for now, I can focus on not collecting too much so I have less to take care of and enjoy that time doing other things. Because, let’s face it. Anything is better than cleaning a big house!
